Some of the most common problems for homeowners are located right in the kitchen sink. It’s the most widely used plumbing fixture in your home.  When you have clogs, or leaks it can mean some major issues are developing with your plumbing.   However, most problems can be simple do-it-yourself projects, while others may require help of a licensed Los Angeles plumber at United Plumbing Heating Air & Electric.

Leaky or Clogged Kitchen Faucets

First, is to check the end of the faucet where the water comes out.  Try to unscrew the aerator, it can usually be done by hand and see if there’s any particles attached to it. If so, you may have some obstruction in your faucet, remove it and let the faucet run for awhile and then put back on the aerator.  If the faucet is still dripping, it could be the washer located within the faucet.  Some faucets have complicated components, if you’re not comfortable taking it apart, it’s a good idea to contact a, local Los Angeles plumbing professional.

Broken Garbage Disposals

There could be a number of things wrong with a broken garbage disposal.  First thing, make sure the power is off and clear away any particles from inside the disposal.  Second, is to reset the disposal by pushing the red button on the underside of the disposal.   Lastly, your disposal should have come with an allen-wrench, use this allen-wrench to manually turn the disposal on the underside, and then turn back on the disposal.  If none of these steps work, get help and contact a local plumber in Los Angeles.

Pipes and Vanities

Pipes also may sweat when cold water passes through them in warmer interior airspaces in the home, and this water condensing on the surface of pipes may drip, causing moisture problems to appear where no leak exists.

Look under vanities and sinks for drips or similar evidence. Use a flashlight to follow the path of exposed pipes, looking for droplets of water that will accumulate at the lower section before dropping off, and run your fingertips along these pipes to feel for wetness.

Fixing most kitchen sink plumbing problems is relatively easy to do if you have the right tools and understanding of how each plumbing fixture works. However, trying to fix such issues on your own without the proper tools or experience can ultimately cause further damage to your kitchen sink, so never hesitate to call United Plumbing Heating Air & Electric.
